In use for more than 60 years throughout the oil and gas industry, hydraulic fracturing has not been found to be harmful to the environment. The process is subject to strict regulatory requirements - conditions Encana always meets, and frequently exceeds.

Pouce Coupe area piping failure
On November 22, a rare piping failure and sour natural gas leak occurred at
one of our well sites located approximately 10 kilometers south of the village
of Pouce Coupe, British Columbia.

Shale gas

Transition
We divided our natural gas and oil assets (effective December 1, 2009) to enhance long-term value for our shareholders. Today, we are focused almost entirely on natural gas, the cleanest burning fossil fuel.
