This proactive approach helps us to anticipate and identify any potential workplace hazards which could affect the well-being of workers and communities. From there, the hazards are evaluated and controlled to minimize or eliminate potential impacts.

  • Demonstrating the value of continuous emissions monitoring

    With the help of the Environmental Innovation Fund, our Canadian Division has successfully piloted technology that provides continuous emissions surveillance. Between May 26, 2009 and July 15, 2010, our Hussar Crowfoot Gas Plant near Drumheller was monitored with air detection and ranging (Airdar) technology. Airdar uses several strategically-placed measuring devices to detect methane and non-methane hydrocarbon concentrations in the air.

    Since 2003, we have used an extensive water treatment and distribution system to support drilling and well completion operations in Colorado's Piceance Basin. During this same period, the South Piceance Basin team began an ambitious effort to close approximately 180 historic and active pits containing drill cuttings and completion flowback water, the last of which were closed in early 2011.
