We have established a leading land and resource position in Louisiana within the Haynesville Shale, known to be one of the largest U.S. natural gas finds in history.
We acquired our first Haynesville lease in 2005, drilled the first three vertical wells in 2006, and have continued to acquire land in Louisiana. Today, we hold more than 209,000 net acres and average more than 508 million cubic feet equivalent of natural gas production per day.
We employ more than 85 direct employees and 152 contractors and have been able to invest more than $2 million in Louisiana communities during the past three years.
We operate on the basis of trust, integrity and respect, principles that are the foundation of our Courtesy Matters program. The program creates proactive partnerships between Encana, our contractors and the community and emphasizes the shared responsibility in creating positive business practices, courteous behavior and community responsibility. Courtesy Matters focuses on responsible and courteous behavior related to traffic, gates, dust, nose and garbage.
In November 2010, Encana Natural Gas Inc. opened its first natural gas fueling station in Coushatta, Louisiana. The Red River station fuels our growing fleet of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and in May 2011, it began offering the station’s fueling service to other corporate fleets in the region.
Being a good neighbor has always been a focus for us and our employees. As part of this effort, we hosted a trash pick up day in Red River for its Keep Red River Parish Beautiful program. We recruited more than 100 volunteers to pick up more than six tons of garbage around highways and local communities during the spring of 2011. Encana received the Corporate Leadership award for continued support of the Keep Red River Parish Beautiful program.
Encana received a Campus Impact Award from the Council for Resource Development for our work with the Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC). Over the past four years, Encana has provided scholarships to 10 Red River High School students for the Oil and Gas Technology programs at Navarro and BPCC.
